HOW A HANAMI IS BORN

In Japan, at the beginning of March, a large pink cloud envelops the streets of Japan: it is the blooming of cherry blossoms, the Sakura.

Hanami from “Hana” (flowers) and “mi” (observe), is the traditional celebration, a symbol of the transience of life and, therefore, of its immense value. In his latest collection, which takes the proper name of Hanami, Sannino is inspired by this large pink cloud that is the cherry blossoms. In the latest works, the cobalt-colored branches are intertwined among the Sakura flowers, whose shades range from magenta to pink, up to white.

Legend has it that a tree could not bloom due to a sad and negative aura. Kami, one of the forest deities, had compassion and decided to help him.

She transformed him into a man, so that, for a year, he had the possibility of traveling and thus rediscovering the joy of living and the possibility of blooming again. He did not immediately get used to his new condition, but then he met Sakura, a young woman, to whom he introduced himself with the name of Yohiro.  The two fall in love, and Yohiro revealed the truth to her, but after a year Kami returned to know which path Yohiro wanted to take: blossom or die. However, Sakura soon realized that she could not remain alone, and the deities suggested Sakura to merge with Yohiro forever.

The two embraced, they became one and it was at that point that the tree blossomed, with its numerous pink flowers, a symbol of eternal love. It is precisely to this legend that Sannino links the meaning of this new collection: the flowering represents rebirth, a new beginning for nature, a further source of life, the next possible scenery.

The work is an ideal setting of a detail of the cherry trees, in which Yohiro still entwines his branches in the Sakura flowers in an eternal embrace.

Gold and silver leaf is instead used as a symbol of repair for damage caused to nature by man.
